Barcelona is close to signing a former academy graduate

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Barcelona has been prolific in the summer transfer window. The club board has worked hard to provide Xavi with a formidable squad to fight for titles, especially the La Liga title. However, the one position that the team still needs to cover is the full-backs position. The club has been linked with Marcus Alonso for the left-back position. The said deal is close to being completed. This leaves the right-back position as the only one to be fixed before the transfer market closes.

While Barcelona does have a natural right-back in Dest, Xavi has lost faith in the American because of his lack of understanding of Xavi’s ideology. The coach has left the American out of the squad for all the league games up until now. The club has also put Dest in the market to attract possible suitors.

Barcelona looking for a right-back

While FC Barcelona is searching the market for a lost-cost right-back, the name of Hector Bellerin has popped up on the list of potential candidates. The former La Masia graduate has an agreement in principle to leave Arsenal by mutual termination of his contract. The Spaniard has been looking for a move away ever since falling out of favor with Mikel Arteta. Bellerin spent the last season in Real Betis, impressing with his performances there. However, even though the player would love a move back to Betis. Betis’ financial issues mean any move is ruled out.

The operation would be a low-risk, high reward for the Catalans. He will fit into the wage structure effortlessly due to his relatively low wages. According to journalists Hugo Cerezo and Juanmarti, the Catalans are in advance negotiations to sign Bellerin for free, just like Aubameyang. When the signing goes through, Xavi will have Sergi Roberto and Bellerin to cover the right-back position.
