The agent of Stefan De Vrij, Mino Riola has reportedly been looking to relocate his client’s future away from Inter Milan as per the report in Italian outlet Tuttosport.
The defender joined the reigning Serie A champions back in 2018 for free. The 29-year-old was an integral part of Antonio Conte’s system last year, helping the club to win the 19th Serie A title. The Netherlands international was also in the national squad for the Euro 2020 and played all four of their games.
The 29-year-old started his football journey with the local club in the Netherlands for VV Spirits. At the age of 10, he got the chance to join Feyenoord’s youth division. The defender initially played as a midfielder but during his Feyenoord time, he became a centre-back. He signed his first professional contract with the Dutch side in 2009 and in 2014 the defender left for Italian club Lazio.
Will De Vrij leave Inter this summer?
According to the report in Tuttosport, following the departure of Achraf Hakimi and the impending departure of Romelu Lukaku, Inter Milan could be open to selling a few others in this summer transfer window. One of them might be Stefan De Vrij as his agent Mino Riola is exploring the possibility of finding a club in the Premier League for his client.
Having signed the defender for free three years back, selling him for around €40 million would be a huge capital gain for the Nerazzurri. However, the fans will not be happy with these departures. They have already warned the club by hanging a banner outside the stadium which said the club should not forget the promises that they made.
Selling De Vrij would make the Inter Milan side extremely weak. Following the departure of Conte, everyone thought he was the main problem. However, what we have been experiencing from the Nerazzurri hierarchy, it would be intolerable for a winner like Conte to witness his best players being shown the exit door.
De Vrij has been a consistent performer for Inter over the past seasons. And if he is to leave the club this summer that will create a big hole in the Nerazzurri’s defence. Having already gained around €175 million from Lukaku and Hakimi, it is completely unnecessary to sell yet another player this summer.
