Former Barcelona player expresses his views on Xavi and Koeman

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Former Barcelona player Pjanic arrived at the club from Juventus in the summer of 2020. He was part of a transaction that saw Arthur Melo travel the other way.

The Bosnian international, however, had a challenging first season at Barcelona since Ronald Koeman, the then-manager seldom employed the midfielder. The veteran midfielder played little during his first season in FC Barcelona. He subsequently went on loan to Besiktas in 2021 and spent the whole season in Turkey. To the astonishment of many, Barcelona manager Xavi Hernandez, decided to keep Pjanic after his comeback. Xavi saw the midfielder as a backup for Sergio Busquets.

Pjanic joined Sharjah FC after Barcelona parted ways with him due to the club’s inability to offload Frenkie de Jong in the summer and the necessity to cut costs.

Former Barcelona player Miralem Pjanic opened up about his relationship with coach Xavi

Former Barcelona player Miralem Pjanic opened up about his relationship with coach Xavi Hernandez. In his interview with Cadena SER, he talked about the events that led to his departure.

“It was exceptional; my relationship with him and the technical staff was perfect, the way he played and how he prepared matches was better than Koeman’s period, and the team, as it is clear, has clear ideas and plans.”

“I was surprised by the training with Koeman. It was without intensity, without tactics and without ideas, we did not prepare well for the matches, but with Xavi, it is different. The training is good.”

He also spoke about his decision to leave Barcelona in the summer.

“The decision to leave Barcelona was not easy; everyone feels united, an extraordinary team with players and fans.”

“My exit was not easy for anyone, Xavi told me that he wanted me to stay, and I did the full pre-season, I convinced Xavi that I had quality, but at the end of the first matches, I could not show my value, at the beginning of the season I expected to play more.”
