Jose Mourinho wants his former club’s striker Luis Diaz

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Jose Mourinho is pushing AS Roma to sign Luiz Diaz from his former club FC Porto. The world was introduced to the genius of Mourinho during his time at Porto. The then-unknown manager led his squad to win the Europa League and the Champions League in consecutive seasons. It was after that he went to clubs like Chelsea, Inter Milan, Real Madrid and Manchester United. His excellent record at every club makes him one of the most sorts after managers to this day.

Luis Diaz had a very average season at Porto last season. He netted 6 goals and created 5 in 30 appearances. But he was in the spotlight at Copa America. Columbia lost to eventual winner Argentina in the semi-finals. However, they won the 3rd place match against Peru with the last kick of the game. Diaz scored 2 goals including the winner scoring the same number of goals as golden boot winner Lionel Messi.

Jose Mourinho took charge of Roma 2 months back and held his first training session 2 weeks back. After the session, he gave 8 players permission to look for other clubs as they were not a part of his plans. In his first press conference, he emphasised his idea to work on a long-term plan with the club. He wants to take the club to the top and give them the foundation to stay up there.

Mourinho either wants Diaz or …?

Diaz has netted 25 times in 90 appearances for Porto. At 24, he is approaching his prime and will push his agents to secure the move. He has a release clause of €80 million and Porto are ready to accept €35 million. Roma are ready to give an additional €25 million as bonuses. Even though no official bid has taken place yet, Roma are very close to securing the deal.

Another option could be Filip Kostic from Eintracht Frankfurt. Although slightly older, he has a lower price tag. He is on the wish list of many other clubs and Roma have added him to their’s as well.
