Jose Mourinho to let 8 AS Roma players leave this window

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Mourinho has informed 8 players that they do not have a future at Roma. The Special One held his first training session on Thursday and took little time to show who the boss is. Mourinho has a number of targets he wants to sign to bring to Rome but is aware of the financial situation of the clubs around Europe.

Roma were not close to their best last season. They finished 7th in the Serie A which means that they would not feature in the Europa League or the Champions League. Instead, they will be playing in the inaugural edition of the European Conference League. They had an impressive run in the Europa League, losing in the semis to an energetic Manchester United.

Roma have been linked to a couple of players after Jose Mourinho’s arrival. Gianluigi Buffon was a signing Mourinho was looking forward to, but the veteran has decided against it. Other players include Granit Xhaka, Eric Bailly, Eden Hazard and many more.

Players who have been shown the door

Mourinho informed the 8 players that they are not a part of his plans. He has allowed them to look out for clubs to make a possible move before the transfer window closes. The players include Pedro, Justin Kluivert, Steven N’Zonzi, Robin Olsen, Ante Coric, Davide Santon and Federico Fazio.

Out of all the players on the list, Pedro is the only one who has played under Jose Mourinho. The Spaniard was at Chelsea during Mourinho’s second spell at the club. He had good run at Roma last season, scoring 5 and giving 2 assists in 27 appearances.

Mourinho wants to transform Roma

Mourinho has had strained relation with a few players before arriving at Rome. Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Chris Smalling were a part of his squad at Manchester United. But it seems that they have buried the hatchet as Mourinho knows how important they are for the team.

Letting 8 players go will give Roma enough revenue to make the signings they want. They have to be quick though.
