Mourinho wants to player, beyond a player

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Roma appointed Jose Mourinho as their manager at the start of last month. Tottenham sacked ‘Ze Special One’ just weeks before and he had said that he would return to football soon. With a new challenge in front of him Jose already had plans to get things moving.

Roma did not have a great season. They did progress till the semi-finals of the Europa League. Manchester United battered them 8-5 across 2 legs . The leaky defence conceded 5 goals in the 2nd half of the first leg. Similar antics in the Serie A caused them to lose a spot for next year’s Europa League.

Introduce Gianluigi Buffon, a legendary goalkeeper who has spent almost his entire career in Italy. At 43, Buffon warmed benches at Juventus often side-lined for Wojciech Szczesny until he decided to leave after this season. Is Buffon set to leave the mountain-tucked Turin to set for Rome?

Mourinho wants a Goalkeeper

According to reports, the former Inter Milan manager wants to sign a goalkeeper first. The Giallorossi have struggled to find the perfect player at goal. Pau Lopez has suffered between injuries and inconsistent performances. Lopez injured himself in the first leg of the Europa League semi-finals and Roma’s defence broke loose after that. His replacements, Antonio Mirante and Daniel Fuzato have struggled to show that they are capable.

Buffon has never left Turin except for his one-year spell at PSG. It was in that season Manchester United decided to pull a spirited comeback in the Round of 16 of the Champions League. Buffon stood hapless as Marcus Rashford tore the net.

Buffon decided to return to Juventus the next season. However, minutes have been scarce and rumours of signing Gianluigi Donnarumma have forced him to look for another challenge.

Roma can strike the deal

The Italian is ever-reliable and has experience matched by no one else. Roma are a team of talented yet raw individuals. They could possibly crack into any other team but struggle to play as a team.

With a veteran who knows the game inside out and a manager who has a proven record of being tremendously successful, Roma can be a deadly side next season. But until the deal is struck, everything is fiction.
