Jose Mourinho wants reunion with Manchester United star

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Mourinho is trying to convince Roma to push for Bailly. Tottenham Hotspur let Mourinho go in April. Roma knew they had a giant in the market and brought him to the club within 2 weeks. Mourinho has been scouting and searching for players who could have on the clubs future has his eyes set on some former players.

Eric Bailly did not have a great season at Manchester United. He managed to scrounge up just 17 appearances. For Bailly, it’s not his form that puts him in a bad position. He struggles to stay fit which means that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer goes ahead with Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof. He has been brilliant whenever he sets his foot on the pitch but cannot seem to do it week in week out.

Roma had a terrible season finishing 7th in the Serie A last season. Their Europa League run came to end in the semi-finals where they lost to Manchester United. Apart from Chris Smalling, Roma do not seem strong at the back. Signing Bailly would be a big boost.

No place in the team

Eric Bailly has never been able to strengthen his position in the team. Manchester United have 5 defender and are very close to signing Rafael Varane this window. He has no place in the team but surely is influential when he is on.

The fans love him when he’s on the pitch. The general opinion is that Harry Maguire becomes more effective with Bailly on his side. The main reason to that is Bailly pace and aggression, something Victor Lindelof lacks.

Roma wants Bailly

It was Jose Mourinho who signed Eric Bailly at Manchester United. He has already had an Old Trafford reunion at Roma with Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Chris Smalling. The confusing bit is that Bailly recently extended his contract and we’re not sure if Solskjaer will let go of Bailly.

Rafael Varane’s arrival will only reduce Bailly’s game time. Axel Tuanzebe could be another option for Roma. In fact, we believe he is an upgrade to Bailly’s strengths.
