Juventus defender targeted by Liverpool and Manchester City

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Merih Demiral is a name arousing a lot of interest in Europe. With the transfer window fast approaching, be prepared to see this name tossed around by clubs, a lot. Currently, Manchester City and Liverpool have shown interest in Demiral.

The 23-year-old is not having a great season with many describing it as “a season full of shadows”. He has played just 14 Serie A games for Juventus this season, 4 of those coming from the bench.

Continuous injury spells just add to the frustration of the young lad. During the winter transfer window, he expressed his frustration over the lack of minutes and contemplated over a possible exit. However, Juventus were not ready to let go of the talented center-back for less than €50 million.

Demiral for Juventus

After being signed by the Bianconeri in 2019 for €18 million, he scourged up 6 appearances last season. With the arrival of Andrea Pirlo and an injured de Ligt on the bench, Demiral was a regular at the start of this season alongside Bonucci or Chiellini.

With the return of de Ligt, Pirlo sent Demiral back to bench-warming duty. Though he is hailed as one of Serie A’s best defenders, Pirlo did not see him play .

His total appearances for Juve in Serie A, 20, is almost the number of Senior International Caps he has, 19. At 6’3, Demiral is a commanding presence in the penalty area and has been compared to big names like Nemanja Vidić.

Liverpool and Manchester City target Merih Demiral

Despite all facts going against him, the Turk is gathering a lot of attention. Liverpool had him on their radar in the winter transfer window but did not pursue the deal. A strong, young defender along with Ballon D’or contender Virgil van Dijk will make Liverpool’s defence vacuum-tight.

Since Guardiola’s arrival, Cityzens have spent over 400 million euros on their defence. That is more than the military budget of a few countries. Liverpool will be an ideal club for Demiral and a good side to get his career reignited.
