Fans of Bayern Munich are relieved as their midfield star Joshua Kimmich signs a new contract with the club. Kimmich extends his contract for 4 more years, which meant that the German will be with Bayern till 2025.

Contract talks have been progressing between Kimmich and the club for some time. Bayern was ultimately able to convince the 26-year-old to sign the new contract and announced it on their website.

The next priority for the club will shift in securing the future midfield partner of Kimmich. Leon Goretzka will have his contract with Bayern end in the summer of 2022, and Bayern are desperate for him to stay.

KIMMICH TO CONTINUE AT BAYERN

Joshua Kimmich has been a vital part of the Bayern Munich team ever since his move from RB Leipzig. The German started in the right-back role and did an excellent job in replacing former captain Philipp Lahm. However, he soon shifted to the midfield role and has been excellent ever since.

“The most important reason for my contract extension is that I can pursue my passion with joy every day here at FC Bayern. I have a team where I can achieve everything, and a lot of teammates have become real friends. That’s why I started playing football in the first place, because it should be fun. I still don’t think I’m at the end of my development and I’m convinced there’s a lot possible at FC Bayern in the next years. On top of that, my family feels at home here. Munich has become a second home. The combination we have here isn’t found all over the world.” – said Kimmich after signing his new contract.

The German has played 264 times for Bayern across all competition scoring 30 times for them. He has won 6 Bundesliga Titles, 3 DFB Pokals, 4 DFL Supercups, 1 UEFA Champions League, 1 UEFA Super Cup and 1 Club World Cup with Bayern Munich.

For Bayern, securing the service of Kimmich till 2024 is pivotal for their future plans. The club already lost David Alaba this summer, as he move to Real Madrid as a free agent. Kimmich is considered as a future captain by the club hierarchy and they wants to build the squad around him. All eyes will now shift to Goretzka and whether Bayern can extend his contract as well.
