Latest Updates on Financial Fair Play Situation of Manchester City

Manchester City

Manchester City are facing 115 charges for possibly breaking the Premier League’s financial rules. The charges were made in February 2023, accusing the club of not following the Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules between 2009 and 2018. City denies these charges, and an independent group will review the case.

Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest and Everton have also been charged with breaking the FFP rules. Forest lost four points, and Everton initially lost 10 points, but it was reduced to six after they appealed. Everton faced another charge and lost an additional two points. City’s hearing is yet to happen, but Premier League chief Richard Masters said it will take place soon.

Manchester City Denies Allegations

In February 2023, Manchester City was accused of breaking the Premier League’s Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules from 2009 to 2018. City strongly denies these accusations. They say they gave the Premier League a lot of information, so they’re surprised by the charges. They’re glad an independent group will review the case and look forward to proving their innocence.

Manchester City’s Hearing update

When Masters was asked about the main differences between the cases, he explained during a committee meeting in January:

“They are very different charges. If any club, whether they are the current champions or otherwise, had been found in breach of the spending rules for year ’23, they would be in exactly the same position as Everton or Nottingham Forest.

“The volume and character of the charges laid before Man City, which I cannot talk about at all, are being heard in a completely different environment. There is a date set for that proceeding.”

Masters gave an important update about the 115 charges against Manchester City for possibly breaking Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules. Speaking at a press conference in London, Masters said that the hearing for City’s case would happen soon.

During a press-conference, Pep Guardiola said

“Wait until it’s decided, and I’ll tell you then. You’re questioning me like we have been punished. At the moment, we’re innocent. There is more chance I will stay if we are in League One than if we win the Champions League.”
