Liverpool linked to ‘outstanding’ Chelsea player

Reportedly, Chelsea could consider selling Conor Gallagher in the January transfer window, and there is belief that Liverpool is keen on the midfielder.

The England international has been a small glimmer of light in what has been a disastrous campaign for the Blues. He has argubly been Chelsea’s best player this season. He has even captained the side in the absence of Reece James. England National team manager, Gareth Southgate even lauded Gallagher as ‘outstanding’.

Gallagher deserves better

Chelsea have been a huge mess over the last 12 months and some of its players deserve better than languishing at 12th place. One of them is Gallagher.

The 23-year-old has shown that he is capable of so much more. Liverpool could give him a lifeline to leave Stamford Bridge and restart his career at Anfield, a place where the midfielder could flourish.

The Reds’ style of play could certainly suit Gallagher. However, Liverpool’s preference right now would be to sign a defensive midfielder, not an attacking one.

Is selling Gallagher the right move for Chelsea

On the face of it, Chelsea selling one of their best players would just pile up on the madness and bad decisions in the Todd Boehly era. However, that judgement isn’t completely black or white.

Chelsea desperately need a striker and a top-class striker would certainly not come cheap. The blues will have to sell players to fund a big money signing in order to avoid breaching FFP regulations. Since under-performing players wouldn’t go for much, the management will have to make a tough decision of selling some in-form players.

In the end, if the new player signed with the transfer fee of Gallagher goes on to make Chelsea a better team, then the decision would be considered a masterstroke. If the new player doesn’t impress, then it will just be another bad decision from the Chelsea management.
