Odisha FC has completed the hiring of Sergio Lobera as their new head coach. As previously reported, Odisha FC led the race to hire the Spanish coach and has officially finalised the transaction.
Despite the considerable public scrutiny regarding Lobera’s future, Odisha FC was able to seal the agreement. Having previously emerged as the front-runners in the battle to hire the Spaniard. The Lobera tale has enthralled the Indian football world. And it is now coming to an end with the 46-year-old signing a contract with the Juggernauts.
Sergio Lobera has a proven track record of success in the Indian Super League. Having previously led FC Goa to the final of the 2018-19 season and to the League Winners Shield the following year. Despite his achievements, Lobera left Goa in 2020 to join the City Group-owned Mumbai City FC a few months later.
Lobera had a fantastic debut season with Mumbai. Helping the side to their first-ever silverware in the shape of the League Shield. Following this accomplishment, he won the Playoffs title. Making him the only manager in league history to earn the coveted league double.
