Its official, Tottenham Hotspur have announced the signing of Emerson Royal from Barcelona. As the transfer deadline arrived reports of Emerson Royal to Tottenham Hotspur were circling in the transfer market. And with Fabrizio Romano being the source it is a 90% done deal. And as reported last night by the Italian journalist it has happened Royal has officially joined Spurs.
Emerson Royal coming up from Brazil was signed by Barcelona back in January 2019. But was immediately sold to Real Betis in February 2019. Playing for the green-whites’ Royal appeared 79 times scoring 5 goals and 10 assists. And after staying there for two years Barcelona signed him back this summer by exercising their €9 million buy-back option.
The 22-year-old hoping to stay longer this time with the Catalan giants has been hit with a Deja Vu. As after playing only 3 games for Barcelona this season, the club has sold to Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur. The deal mainly happed because Barcelona are in need of money and the Spurs are in need of a full-back. Fulfilling both the club’s desire Emerson is set to fly for England.
Tottenham Hotspur will pay a transfer fee of €25 million to the Catalans for the services of Emerson Royal. While 20% of the transfer amount will go to Real Betis as per agreed terms between Betis and Barcelona. And following this move Emerson Royal is set to stay with Tottenham Hotspur for the next five years.
Moving to the north London club Royal will be giving competition to Japhet Tanganga and Matt Doherty for the right-back spot. And following his recent form, it seems he will be keeping that spot for him in the coming years. So, hoping to see the Brazilian boy shine in Premier League.
