Tottenham keen to sign Champions League winning striker before Man United clash

Tottenham are in advanced talks to sign former Chelsea forward Timo Werner on a short-term deal. Spurs are determined to get the deal done before this weekend’s clash against Manchester United.

According to Sky Germany, the Lilywhites are finalising the deal and the striker has agreed to the deal. The deal will see him move to the Premier League, particularly to London, where he helped Chelsea win the Champions League in 2021 before returning to RB Leipzig in 2022.

Manchester United were also interested in him as they have struggled for goals this season. However, it appears a move to London under Ange Postecoglou looks more exciting for the German forward.

Werner to Tottenham could be a win-win for all parties

This season, the striker has certainly fallen behind Lois Openda in the pecking order at Leipzig. He has only managed two league so far.

On the other hand, Tottenham will be without club captain Song Heung-min who has joined up with his country for the Asian Cup, so signing Werner for six months represents a good deal for both parties. The 27-year-old gets to compete in a team that looks like they are going places, while Spurs get cover for Son and hopefully the goals he would have scored.

The stint at Chelsea is still fresh in the minds of fans

Timo Werner’s stint at Chelsea is still fresh in the minds of fans. He is still seen as a striker who misses chances. However, all that is a matter of form and mindset, which can change quickly. One goal and he might get back in form and get his confidence back.

A good thing is that Werner is already accustomed life in the Premier League. So that might not be a problem since a lot of player take time to adjust to life in the Premier League.
