As per new reports, West Ham are close to hiring Julen Lopetegui, according to HITC. The former Real Madrid manager is expected to take the helm of West Ham in the next campaign. According to Graeme Bailey’s report for HITC on April 26, there have been discussions between Sullivan and the Spaniard. The chairman has been impressed by him. He is “distinctly more likely” to become manager at the London Stadium despite the influence of Tim Steiten Lopetegui, the technical director of West Ham.
West Ham to be better under Lopetegui?
The success David has brought to the Hammers during his two stints is no less than a success. He took over as first-team manager on a short-term contract in November 2017. He guided the Hammers from relegation to 13th place.Moyes returned to the London Stadium in December 2019, where he once again helped secure Premier League survival. The following season, West Ham finished in sixth place. The following season saw them reach a European semi-final and qualify for the Conference League.
The fans dislike the kind of football they play under Moyes, at least a majority. This could be a factor in hiring a manager like Lopetegui. Moyes led his team to the Conference League final the previous season, where they prevailed to take home a European trophy. In spite of this, the Hammers are looking to replace him. Even this season, the Hammers are eighth in the Premier League, just two points behind seventh-place Newcastle United. Although they lost to Leverkusen in the Europa League, they have been far from a bad unit. Even with everything stacked against him, Lopetegui has experience managing Real Madrid and Sevilla. He will have to work hard to live up to Moyes’ legacy. It will be interesting to see how this situation develops in West Ham.
