Andrew Robertson impresses Liverpool fans on international duty

Sir Martin

Andrew Robertson has been really impressive for the Scotland National team during this week. He performed at the top of his game against Gibraltar. Liverpool will be really happy that their left back has performed this admirably ahead of the next season. Andrew Robertson has been a regular starter and a key player for Liverpool for the last 4 to 5 years.

His performance against Gibraltar was a reminder of his quality and how his game has evolved over the years. Liverpool fans are having a good international break. Both their fullbacks have performed very well during their respective matches with their clubs while on international duty.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was very crucial for the England win over Bosnia and Herzegovina. England beat them 3–0, with goals coming from reliable number nine Harry Kane and the new star Cole Palmer of Chelsea. Trent Alexander-Arnold also managed to bag a goal in the 85th minute with a nice finish.

On Liverpool’s opposite flank, Andrew Robertson managed to drop a good performance for his Scotland national team under Steve Clarke.

Newspapers on Andrew Robertson

The newspapers were impressed by what they saw from Robertson and The Daily Record said,

“There weren’t too many positives for Steve Clarke to take but the left-hand side would have pleased him.

A succession of early chances in the game all came down the left flank where Liverpool star Andy Robertson was a constant threat and when Celtic man James Forrest, returning to the international fold, popped up on that flank they inked up well. Both goals came from down the left.”

On the other hand, The National gave Andrew Robertson a 7/10 rating for his performance against Gibraltar and said,

“On corner duties, his delivery was more often than not bang on the money.

Given the nature of coming up against a team of Gibraltar’s stature, the Liverpool left-back got forward at will but couldn’t quite notch an assist.”

Robertson’s future

Andrew Robertson had a tough season last season due to his injury. Unfortunately, the 30-year-old’s shoulder injury from an international match against Spain kept him out of the game nine games into the 2023–24 season. Liverpool really missed their first-choice man for the left back position.

No one could really hold the fort for him. Jurgen Klopp tried to find many formulae to fill the hole that was left by Robertson. He largely failed to find a stable replacement for Andrew Robertson at left back. Players like Joe Gomez were tried in that position but were mostly nowhere as good as the quality that Andrew Robertson provides down the left flank of Liverpool.

However, this performance from Robertson has proved that he is back. This performance has shown the Kop that Andrew Robertson is back to claim his rightful place in the team. The 30-year-old Scottish international has never failed to deliver during the Jurgen Klopp era. However, it will be interesting to see how he performs and is used by the new incoming manager, Arne Slot.

Andrew Robertson joined the Reds from Hull City in the 2017 season. He quickly gained prominence under Jurgen Klopp. He became a regular starter and gradually became a star at Liverpool. Andy will look to make his run at the club as quickly as he can. He certainly has the legs to keep going, as he has shown in his recent performance against Gibraltar for Scotland’s national team.

Liverpool fans would certainly love to see their Champions League and Premier League winner gain his confidence back and keep delivering for them just as he has in the past seasons consistently.
