Chelsea are unwilling to sell Reece James as they deem him untouchable

Graham Potter

Chelsea regards their right-back and captain, Reece James, as untouchable. While recent links have connected James to Real Madrid, it has been emphasized that the Blues consider their captain as untouchable. They are not contemplating a sale, as reported in Jacobs’ Substack column for Si Phillips Talks Chelsea.

According to a report by the Spanish outlet AS, Real Madrid has identified the England international as a potential long-term successor to Dani Carvajal.

Real Madrid is not the only club reportedly to show interest in Reece James. According to FootballTransfers, Manchester City are also considering to monitor the defender.

Chelsea’s stance on Reece James comes as no surprise. He is currently the club captain and holds a vital role as one of the squad’s most important players.

Will Chelsea ever lose their interest in retaining Reece James?

Chelsea’s determination to retain Reece is clear. However, it may not necessarily deter Real Madrid from pursuing a move for him. Real Madrid has a history of being persistent in their pursuits and remains an attractive destination for players. Additionally, the perception that Chelsea might be facing a decline could bolster Real Madrid’s confidence in potentially securing a deal.

Fortunately for Chelsea, Reece James, the 23-year-old England international, is under a long-term contract. This means that regardless of the developments this season, Chelsea will not sell their captain against their wishes.

Given Reece James’ quality as a player, it’s reasonable to anticipate that he will continue to draw interest from other clubs, and this storyline may persist. His impressive performance in the 2021/22 Premier League season, where he scored five goals and provided nine assists while playing as a right-back, highlights the significant attacking threat he brings to the team.
