RB Leipzig attacking midfielder Christopher Nkunku is garnering interest from the top sides of Europe. Chelsea is the latest side that has shown interest in the 23-year-old.
This is according to news outlet Foot Mercato, who claims that Chelsea is looking to sign Nkunku in the next summer. Apart from the European Champions other clubs that are interested in the French attacker are Real Madrid and Manchester City.
Nkunku is having a stellar start to the new season and is a reason why many clubs are monitoring him. Current Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel had previously worked with Nkunku in PSG and could push him to make a move.
NKUNKU TURNING CHELSEA HEADS
The 23-year-old made his move to Leipzig in 2019 after not being able to cement his place in a star-studded PSG side. In the 78 appearances that he made with the French giants, he scored 11 goals while assisting for 4. But his move to Leipzig provided him with regular minutes, which have helped in his development.
Currently, Nkunku is having the best start in his career, involving heavily for his side. In the 10 appearances that he has across all competition, Nkunku has already scored 9 goals and assisted for 3. This includes a hat-trick against Manchester City in their group stage match of the Champions League.
But unfortunately for Leipzig, Pini Zahavi, the agent of Nkunku have made comments on his clients future. Zahavi believes that it is time for Nkunku to make his next big step. However, the 23-year-old still has a contract with his club till 2024, and won’t come cheap.
As for Chelsea, the club is constantly trying to improve and are in the market to acquire the best talent out there. Tuchel is an admirer of Nkunku, with both of them having previously worked together at PSG. But the European champions will face stiff competition from Real Madrid and Manchester City.
Agent Pini Zahavi could become a key figure in any deals. Zahavi has a good relationship with Real Madrid, especially after helping in the signing of David Alaba this summer. It is also reported that the agent has made talks with Los Blancos among other clubs. With Nkunku hitting form expect more clubs to join the race for his signature.
