Coach Profile part 10: – Scott Cooper, the new gaffer for Jamshedpur FC

Jamshedpur FC appointed Irish manager Scott Cooper as the club’s new head coach ahead of Indian Super League 2023-24 season. Scott Cooper has signed a two-year deal with Jamshedpur FC.

The 52-year-old coach managed clubs such as Buriram United, Muangthong United, Ubon UMT United, Police Tero, and most recently, Port FC in Thailand. He had a major impact at Thai club Buriram United, leading the club to the AFC Champions League quarterfinals and an Asia ranking of seven. No Thai team had been to the knockout stages of the competition for 15 years. Under Cooper, as many as 19 players developed into senior national team.

“It is an honour and a privilege to join Jamshedpur FC as their new head coach.

The club has previously won the ISL Shield, and I believe it’s time for us to get back to top once again,”

Cooper said on joining Jamshedpur FC.

Scott Cooper: Managerial Cooper

Cooper, on his arrival at Buriram United found the club in third place of the Thai Premier League. Under Cooper’s reign, Buriram were unbeaten in the Thai Premier League, AFC Champions League, Thai FA Cup and League Cup. Buriram United won 23 out of 29 matches, drawing five and losing only once under Cooper. For the next few seasons he coached various clubs in Thailand.

In June 2018, Cooper was appointed as senior team adviser of the Philippines (Interim). Under Cooper, the Philippines gained its highest ever World Cup point total. In May 2022, it was announced that Cooper stepped down as head coach of the Philippines men’s national team.

Continuing his coaching with the Philippines national team, Cooper propelled the Azkals to their highest-ever FIFA World Cup qualifier points total. Under his management, the team also reached the semi-finals of the AFF Suzuki Cup.

Scott his successful streak as the coach of Port FC in the Thai League, where he won six, drew seven and lost only once.
