According to a report by Football Espana, FC Barcelona and Chelsea are looking to sign the French youngster Kays Ruiz-Atil this summer. And currently, the Catalans are leading the race to sign back their former La Masia player.
Kays Ruiz-Atil joined Barcelona’s La Masia academy back in 2009 from Lyon’s youth academy. Since his joining the youngster went to spend six years in Spain developing his play-making ability through the midfield. As the Frenchman progressed through the youth ranks at Barcelona, he was labeled as the next Lionel Messi by the academy staff.
However, despite performing well the midfielder was transferred to Paris Saint-Germain in 2015 by Barcelona. Following his transfer to France, the youngster signed his first professional contract with PSG in 2017. During the 2017-18 season, Kays Ruiz-Atil played with the U-17 team for Paris Saint-Germain. While, he notably reached the semi-final of the French Championship, and also won the Al-Kass International Cup.
Kays Ruiz-Atil got his first-team appearance for PSG in September last season under Thomas Tuchel. The youngster started in the 1-0 opening day defeat against RC Lens in Ligue 1. Following his debut, he was then called up another six times by then manager Thomas Tuchel. As PSG appointed Mauricio Pochettino as their manager, the youngster has failed to make his name on the first team sheet.
The Frenchman has already announced his departure from PSG a few days ago, as his contract expired this month. However, the midfielder is yet to decide on his future destination. While he may have two options in hand with Barcelona and Chelsea both looking to sign the talented midfielder.
Barcelona are one step ahead of Chelsea for Kays Ruiz-Atil
As Kays Ruiz-Atil became a free agent this summer both Barcelona and Chelsea pondered over the chance to sign him. And as per the latest reports, the Catalans are more favorite to sign the Frenchman this summer over the Blues.
Both the clubs are keeping tabs on the youngster as he decided not to extend his contract with the PSG. Chelsea’s new boss Thomas Tuchel who gave the midfielder his first-team appearance wants him at Stamford Bridge. While the Catalans are looking to sign back their former academy player to make him the next Messi.
And it seems that Kays Ruiz-Atil will choose Barcelona over Chelsea for next season. As the payers’ latest Instagram post revealed he is currently in Barcelona for vacation. If the midfielder joins the Catalans, then it is likely that he will be sent to play for the B team.
However, he may be able to get his name on the first team sheet if he performs well in the B team next season. But he should not have his hopes high as Barcelona have several talented options in their midfield next season. Ronald Koeman has already three young options of Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, and Ruig Puig next season. So, let’s see among the two clubs, who will be able to sign Kays Ruiz-Atil next season.
