Guardiola departure may threaten Manchester City future transfer plans

Manchester City

Manchester City has been a dominant force ever since the arrival of Pep Guardiola and it seems they are not stopping anytime soon in the future. Under the Spanish manager, they have won the EPL six times and recently won it a record four times in a row. The influence of Pep has been so great that Manchester City even won the treble last season. Manchester City even won their first-ever Champions League trophy under him. They became the second team to win the treble after their rivals, Manchester United, did it back in 1999.

The Sky Blues have achieved a lot under the Catalan. However, recent rumors have suggested he might leave Manchester City after the 2024–25 season. The Catalan has earlier expressed his desire to manage a national team. Many nations would be looking to snap in Guardiola considering his amazing record across all the countries he worked in. Guardiola has worked for Barcelona in Spain, Bayern Munich in German and Manchester City in England. He has won the league 11 times in total. His amazing record has made some fans compare him with the great Sir Alex Ferguson.

His presence at the club has also influenced players to join Manchester City on multiple occasions. One classic example was when Lionel Messi was set to leave Barcelona and approached Guardiola to sign him. However, Pep did not feel Messi would fit in his role at that point. Pep has also brought out the best in players like Phil Foden and Kevin DeBryne, making them world-class players. Pep has recently groomed good players like Jack Grealish and Josco Guardivol into amazing players.

If the rumors of him leaving next summer are true, it will have a huge impact on Manchester City’s future signings.

Will Guardiola’s departure affect Manchester City?

When most players are offered to play for Manchester City, they think about playing under Pep Guardiola. The Spanish manager is considered an all-time great and no player would pass the chance to play under him. He has a name for developing talent and making it world-class. He has grown players from club academies and made them play in Champions League finals. Phil Foden is a clear example of Guardiola’s coaching.

Recent reports have suggested that Manchester City are looking to bolster their midfield by signing Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimarães. However, that deal might not go through if the former Barcelona manager leaves the club. One of the main reasons why the deal may not go through is that Bruno would like to develop and grow under Guardiola, and if he is not there at the club, he may change his future destination. He has even received interest from clubs like Arsenal and Liverpool. Currently, the citizens are the top contenders for his signature.

Potential future candidates have also signed long-term deals with other clubs; hence, finding a replacement will be difficult. It will be also very difficult for them to replicate the success which Pep has achieved at the Etihad.

Many speculated that former Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany would be the successor to Guardiola. However, there will be a change of plans as Kompany recently signed as the head coach of Bayern Munich. Despite facing relegation while managing Burnly, Bayern decided to sign Kompany hoping he can make them win the league again.

It will be interesting to see what plans the city board and owners have going forward. It will also be interesting to see how current players will position their transfer availability after Guardiola’s departure. Manchester City fans are very hopeful that Pep will extend his contract and hopefully spend his remaining managerial career at the Etihad.
