Keane names only seven Man Utd players he would ‘definitely keep’ from current squad

Roy Keane claims he would keep just seven Manchester United players if given the choice.

Manchester United’s season almost seems to be over in the eyes of fans. They crashed out of the Champions League, coming last in their group, behind the likes of Galatasaray and FC Copenhagen. In the Premier League, they are already 10 points behind league-leaders Liverpool. Many had hoped this summer’s acquisitions of almost £200 million would give Ten Hag the tools he needed to compete for trophies, but that hasn’t happened.

Keane reveals who he’d keep from the current Manchester United squad

Club legend Roy Keane was speaking to Ian Wright, Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville on the Stick to Football podcast. He believes that the whole squad needs a revamp if United are to overcome their current mess. Keane discussed who he would keep and who he would let go from the current squad if given a chance.

The Sky Sports pundit named only 7 players that he would like to keep. He named Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez, Alejandro Garnacho, Kobbie Mainoo and summer signings Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund as the seven players.

Keane further said that he’d keep Erik ten Hag as the manager.

Surprise inclusions and exclusions from Keane’s list

Keane decided to axe senior Manchester United players such as Raphael Varane and Christian Eriksen, both of whom aren’t having the best of seasons. On the other hand, he even left out Harry Maguire who is enjoying a great season. He also raised question marks around Luke Shaw and Marcus Rashford, insisting he would give them a “last chance”. The other exclusions are pretty much understandable.

Now speaking of surprise inclusions, only one name stands out, Mason Mount. Signed this summer from Chelsea for £60 million, Mount hasn’t lived up to the expectations. He has failed to impress the manager and is currently out injured. However, to be fair, Mount hasn’t been used in his preferred position. He is definitely talented and being only 24 at the moment, he has his prime ahead of him.
