Liverpool eyeing number of players from the same country, including £52m player

With the January transfer window approaching, rumors are spreading that Liverpool will be doing some business. With that in mind, The Daily Mail have claimed some interesting things this week.

First of all, they claim that Liverpool’s business is likely to depend on rival clubs’ European progress. For example, there’s reportedly a higher chance that they’ll sign a target if the player’s club has fallen out of the Champions League. They also claimed that the Reds have their eye on a ‘number’ of players in the Portuguese Primeira Liga.

Rumors say that Liverpool is looking at Portugal again

Liverpool are clearly big fans of the talent being produced and developed over in Portugal. They have signed Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez from Porto and Benfica respectively, in the past. The Reds have also been linked with Enzo Fernandez, Matheus Nunes and Florentino Luis in earlier transfer windows. Enzo and Nunes are currently playing in England, but for other teams.

This window, rumors have linked Liverpool to 22-year-old Goncalo Inacio of Sporting CP. However, Inacio is not the only one being linked; a few other Primeira Liga players are also linked.

Transfers from Portugal to England haven’t fared too well

Although there are certainly some exciting players in Portugal, we should perhaps question this approach right now. For all of Diaz, Nunez, Matheus and Enzo, the moves from Portugal to England have been challenging.

Diaz and Nunez have obviously shown some very good things since arriving in 2022. But just now, neither are sparkling, or even threatening to. Both are capable and exciting players, but they haven’t fully made the step up to Liverpool.

Nunes hasn’t lived up to expectations either, first at Wolves and now at Manchester City. Enzo has looked good at times for Chelsea, but that’s about it. He hasn’t justified his hefty price tag.

As a result, Liverpool should be cautious before signing Inacio, who has a £52 million release clause. While the rumors may be true and Liverpool may really be interested in Inacio, however they need to be cautious. He has a release clause of £52 million and the Reds might want to look at cheaper options.
