Young Peruvian defender dreams of signing for Arsenal

Arsenal

Peruvian defender Oliver Sonne has revealed he dreams of making a switch to Arsenal.

The 23-year-old played his youth football in Denmark, even spending 18 months with FC Copenhagen, playing in their reserves and U-19 teams. The right back is now playing for Silkeborg IF since 2021 and has impressed this season. This season, he has 3 goals and 4 assists in 31 appearances playing as a full-back.

Sonne’s current deal with the Danish club lasts until 2026. However, Tipsbladet indicate he could leave Silkeborg for a top club in the summer window. If it were up to him, he would either join Arsenal or make a switch to Serie A.

Sonne talks about his dream

The Peru international, Sonne, spoke to Pase Filtrado on various topics, including his plans for the future and his dream to join Arsenal. Tipsbladet, who have relayed his comments, claim the player has received interest from Ligue 1.

His immediate focus is on Silkeborg’s cup final against AGF and he then hopes to secure a move to another club. “I have been here for three years, and there are times when you want to try new things,” Sonne said.

The 23-year-old then discussed the league of the club he dreams of moving to. That’s when the full-back talked about Serie A and the Gunners. Sonne explained: “I would like to play in the Italian league or at Arsenal. It would be a dream of mine, but I don’t know if it’s possible at the moment. I hope it can become a reality one day.”

Do Arsenal need Sonne?

I don’t think so. Ben White has been the first-choice right-back at Arsenal, with Takehiro Tomiyasu providing him cover. In addition to this, Cedric Soares is also at the Emirates, but his deal expires in June.

It’s unlikely that Arsenal will focus on strengthening the right-back in the summer window. A striker, defensive midfielder and maybe a center-back or left-back would be their priorities.

This means Sonne may have to wait for his dreams to be fulfilled.
