27-year-old Man Utd star should be dropped after ‘dreadful’ performance against Liverpool

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

On the face of it, getting one point at Anfield is a great result for the struggling Manchester United team. However, the Red Devils were disappointing in the match against Liverpool. They didn’t look like they came into the game with an intention to win. One player who disappointed the most for Manchester United was Sofyan Amrabat. After his poor performance last weekend, he should be benched against West Ham this weekend.

Media’s reaction to Amrabat’s performance vs Liverpool

Ten Hag started Amrabat in a deeper midfield role alongside Kobbie Mainoo in the Manchester United vs Liverpool game. While the 18-year-old thrived against the Reds, Amrabat looked lost at times and ineffective at others.

The Manchester Evening News’ Samuel Luckurst gave him a 6/10. They described him as ‘on the backfoot early on’ and that his use of the ball was ‘dreadful at times’ – a hardly glowing review.

Alex Turk of the Express gave the Moroccan a 5/10 rating. He added that Amrabat ‘looked dreadful on the ball’.

NBC Sport’s Joe Prince-Wright also gave him a 5/10. He highlighted that the 27-year-old ‘struggled with Liverpool’s movement in the first half’.

Sofyan Amrabat stats in Liverpool vs Manchester United game

The most glaring stat for Amrabat is that he lost the ball a staggering 16 times in the 95 minutes of football played. That comes out to a ball lost every 6 minutes. He even lost 7 out of 8 ground duels and did not even attempt a single aerial duel.

He misplaced 12 passes, which unacceptable given that he was playing in a deeper role. On top of that, he didn’t make any key passes, attempt any crosses or long balls, and failed to make a single tackle either. Dribbling was a problem as well, offensively and defensively, as he attempted and failed one of his own while also being dribbled past twice during the game.

On the back of such an awful performance, there is no way he should start against West Ham next weekend.
