AC Milan Manager talks about his side’s struggle ahead of the derby

Stefano Pioli has been in charge of the Rossoneri since 2019. The club has progressed well in these past 3 years under his leadership. AC Milan finally won the Scudetto after a gap of 11 years and reached the pinnacle of Italian football.

However, the main challenge for most Italian teams except for Juventus has been maintaining the top spot. Inter Milan won the Serie A under Antonio Conte, however, they struggled to defend the title. Similarly, the Rossoneri are having a tough time maintaining the dominant performances from last season.

The club is still in 2nd position in the table, however, the table is not the ideal representation of performances. The team is not playing at the level they have set for themselves in the past two years. The defense has been criticized for leaking goals at regular intervals and that has hurt the team.

AC Milan ponder over defensive issues lately

The Manager has publicly admitted that the defense has been struggling in recent games. The club may need to find some solution on the training pitch or in the transfer market eventually. The defensive setup is the same as last year and it is difficult to understand why it isn’t working anymore.

Theo Hernandez has returned on the back of a successful World Cup campaign and maybe a break will help the left back. However, if the issues cannot be resolved internally then the club may want to look into the market.

No matter what the solution is, the club needs to find it as soon as possible considering the title race. Napoli have opened up a 9-point gap at the top of the table and they look really strong. The team from Naples recently thrashed Juventus 5-1 at home. If the Rossoneri wants to run them close then they will have to improve defensively real soon!
