AC Milan signed Fikayo Tomori on a simple loan deal from Chelsea in January. He was originally signed as a backup center-back option in the squad until the end of the season.
But, the 23-year-old defender’s performances in the last few games caught the attention of the Milan board. Hence, they want Tomori on a permanent deal.
The England international started his Chelsea career with a bang last season. However, after a couple of hiccups, he was dropped by Frank Lampard and then shipped to Milan on loan. Tomori made his international debut in November 2019 against Kosovo off the bench.
Milan want to negotiate the Tomori’ asking price:
Stefano Pioli’s side have an option to buy Tomori for €28 million in the summer. However, Milan believes the price is too high and they want to negotiate with Chelsea.
Tomori played in 11 games for Milan in all competitions due to the injury to Simon Kjaer and Romagnoli. He is a very quick center-back which is important for Milan as their first-choice center-back pairing doesn’t have the recovery pace.
“Tomori is a good talent and we have a buy-option clause, The price is very high. AC Milan will decide at the end of this season and we will discuss it with Chelsea’s board.” – Paolo Maldini to SkyItalia in an interview.
“We will have this talk in the next weeks and months about all the guys who are on loan. But of course, I have a general impression of Tomori, which is that he has high, high potential, but I’m not into details right now. The time will come for that.” – Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel gave his thoughts on the Fikayo Tomori deal.
If Milan managed to buy the young defender then it will be another very good signing by them in a long-term project. And it will be good for Tomori’s career as well.
