Football

Ambernath United Atlanta FC suffered their first-ever setback in the Hero I-League 2 championship game when United SC defeated them 4-3 at the Kalyani Sports Complex. Due to Shillong Lajong’s 2-1 victory over FC Bengaluru United and this defeat, Steven Dias’ team dropped to second place in the standings, and the promotion to the Hero I-League will now be decided on the final matchday.

It was a meeting between teams at the bottom and the top of the table because United SC had dropped both of its games thus far and Ambernath United Atlanta FC had triumphed in both of its games. United SC have lost to Shillong Lajong and Delhi FC by razor-thin margins. In their two championship games, Ambernath had triumphed 1-0 and 5-1.

United SC’s Tarak Hembram gave the team the lead in the 38th minute. In the 56th minute, Rahul gave the home team a 2-0 advantage. In the very next minute, Ashley Koli scored a beautiful goal from a cross to cut Ambernath’s deficit in half just when they needed it. Ambernath United Atlanta FC could not make a win

Most of the thrilling action occurred during stoppages. The deficit was once more cut to one by Mandeep Singh Multani’s goal in the second minute of stoppage time. Ambernath United Atlanta FC’s inability to score the equaliser at 3-2 following a scuffle in the area and the ball being cleared off the line gave United SC a vulnerable look. A fantastic strike from outside the box by United SC after leading a counterattack prevented a 3-3 result. In the fourth minute of extra time, Subrata Murmu scores to make the score 4-2. Ambernath United Atlanta FC had a mountain to climb with three minutes remaining in the additional time. Himanshu Patil, the team’s captain, headed in their third goal in the seventh minute, but there wasn’t much time left to score an equaliser as United crossed the goal line with a 4-3 victory.

Considering they were 3-1 down at one point, Ambernath United Atlanta FC would feel like a chance to secure promotion was lost. However, United SC did just enough to secure all three points and advance to the championship game. With three points after their victory and FC Bengaluru FC’s 2-1 defeat, they are presently in fourth place in the standings.
