Arsenal have made contact with Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. The midfielder has confirmed that the Gunners have made an informal approach to sign him during the summer transfer window. The Londoners are playing much better than they were in the early days of the Premier League. They have gone from strength to strength in the past couple of months and they made enormous progress too.
Mikel Arteta has changed the mentality of the team since he took over as the head coach in 2019. The Gunners had a very poor start to the season but the way they have turned it around is truly exceptional. They currently sit 4th in the PL table with 35 points out of their 20 matches. Meanwhile, Arsenal have already started their preparations for the upcoming transfer window.
One of their main targets is Lyon’s Bruno Guimaraes who has been playing regularly for the first team this term. Guimaraes has made 17 appearances for Lyon in the French top-flight and appeared 5 times in the Europa League as well. Reports have suggested that Arsenal have opened talks with the Brazilian midfielder in an attempt to land him at the Emirates later this summer.
Bruno Guimaraes confirms that he has been approached by Arsenal amid interests from other Premier League clubs too
Arsenal are not the only club looking to sign the 24-year-old next summer. According to reports, Everton and Newcastle United are also closely monitoring the situation of Bruno Guimaraes. His performances in Ligue 1 have caught the attention of a number of clubs around Europe.
The Gunners have been chasing the Brazilian for the past couple of years now. They were also scouting him during his time in Brazil playing for Athletico Paranaense. Mikel Arteta is an admirer of Guimaraes and his team will be active this summer in order to add more quality into their midfield.
However, Lyon are unwilling to sell the 24-year-old defensive midfielder mid-season. They will reportedly listen to offers for Guimaraes during the summer transfer window. Evening Standard understands that Bruno will not be available for a cheap price next summer. Arsenal might have to pay an amount of €40 Million to obtain the services of the Brazilian.
“Arsenal approached my agent, but there was no offer. My aim, and I made it clear to Juninho (Lyon’s sporting director), is to win a title with Lyon.”said Guimaraes to Globo, via GFFN
“The fans have not had one for a long time. We have the Coupe de France, the Europa League and the league. It is difficult with the level that PSG are at, but anything can happen.”he added
“My aim is to win a title here, but I have never hidden my desire to play in the Premier League.”
Lyon paid a sum of €20m to sign the midfielder in January 2020 from Athletico Paranaense. Given his form and his performances for Lyon this season, the French outfit will hope to get the double amount of money from what they paid last year.
