Arsenal top target certain to make a move this summer

In-form striker and Arsenal transfer target, Viktor Gyokeres, is certain to seal a move away from Sporting this summer. The Swedish striker has been heavily linked with a move to England, especially Arsenal. He is certainly a player who fits the number nine requirements of the Gunners.

Arsenal sporting director Edu has already confirmed that they have their targets for the summer and Gyokeres could certainly be one of them. Speaking on TNT Sports, Edu said: “I understand what the fans are asking for but we already have our targets. We have planned a lot ahead and I will be worried if we don’t score a lot of goals and if we’re not creating chances, which is the opposite because we create a lot and score a lot of goals. The plan is to try to get better every year and I think we are in a good moment. Let’s see if we can keep improving.”

Do Arsenal need a striker?

Now, one might argue that it suits Arsenal to have strikers that help in the build-up, like their current options, Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus. But that might not be the case. The effect of addition a lethal goalscorer to a possession-based team can be best understood when we see how Erling Haaland took Manchester City to new heights last season.

That’s where Viktor Gyokeres may come in for Arsenal.

Arsenal “main contenders” for Gyokeres

The 25-year-old Swede has an £86 million release clause in his contract. However, some reports suggest Sporting could consider offers upward of around £43 million. That would be a bargain for someone averaging 1.2 goal contributions per game this season.

Newspaper Jornal de Noticias recently shared an update on his situation and Arsenal’s interest. They wrote that Gyokeres is “certain” to leave this summer and Arsenal are the “main contenders” to strike a deal.

People within Arsenal are also said to be “very impressed” by the 25-year-old’s form this term, which is not surprising at all.
