Bayern Munich has strengthened their squad ahead of the upcoming season for their title defence. However, the German champions are not done yet. The club is interested in signing Konrad Laimer from RB Leipzig to bolster their midfield.
Julian Nagelsmann is also keen to reunite with the Austrian midfielder at the Allianz Arena. However, the deal with RB Leipzig is not that simple. The club from Saxony has slapped a €30 million price tag on the midfielder.
Bayern Munich has already spent around €70 million in this summer transfer window. The Bavarians are not eager to splash out another €30 million on the Austrian. Thus, the negotiations are complicated at this stage.
The reluctance is also due to their willingness to afford Marcel Sabitzer a proper opportunity to succeed at the club. The German giants spent €16 million in luring the Austrian to Allianz Arena. The club is hopeful that the versatile player will be able to settle at the club after an underwhelming first season.
Konrad Laimer is not considering a contract extension and planning for a Bayern move
Laimer has one year left on his contract with RB Leipzig. The midfielder has made it clear that he is not willing to sign a contract extension at the club. However, he does not want to become a nuisance for the club and is not pushing for a move away this summer.
Reportedly, Laimer will start the pre-season with RB Leipzig, which can be seen as a sign for the player staying put this summer. If this is to be the case, RB Leipzig will have adequate time to find a suitable replacement for the midfielder. Bayern Munich also will not be concerned as this would mean a possible free transfer next summer.
RB Leipzig’s unwillingness to let Laimer go is intelligible as they have already sold Tyler Adams to Leeds United recently. In order to ensure an adequate depth in the midfield department, Laimer will be crucial to the club from Saxony.
However, the transfer window is an unpredictable time for all clubs. Thus, it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the Austrian international.
