Chelsea midfielder Jorginho publicly said he would like to return to his former side Napoli one day if the situation arrives. And Napoli don’t want to keep loanee Tiemoue Bakayoko and he will be back in Chelsea colors this summer.
Jorginho joined The Blues with the former manager Maurizio Sarri from Napoli in the summer of 2018 for €65 million. Since then he has been criticized heavily by pundits for his lack of athleticism. But he kept his place in the first team under every new Chelsea manager.
On the other hand, Chelsea’s French midfielder Bakayoko joined Napoli on loan last summer. Since joining Chelsea from Monaco for €40 million in July 2017 he has been loaned out three times.
Jorginho has a contract with Chelsea until June 2023. He has 21 Premier League matches this season and scored 6 goals with a single assist. Bakayoko only registered 43 appearances for Chelsea in total before his loan spells around Europe.
Will Jorginho return to Napoli and Bakayoko to Chelsea?
The 29-year-old’s future remains unclear. In recent weeks, his agent Joao Santos fuelled talks about him leaving Chelsea and returning to Napoli.
“He is an Italian international, and we are thinking about a return to Serie A if he leaves the Blues. If Napoli will make an offer, we’ll evaluate it. He had a great time in Naples, and he has many friends over there.” – Joao Santos.
But Jorginho confirmed earlier this week that he has no plans to leave the club and is ‘very happy’ in west London.
“I’m very happy here. I’m really happy here. So I don’t think about anything else either. Now, at the moment, there’s no reason to think about what will happen in two years, for example.” – Jorginho said in an interview.
Bakayoko has made 36 appearances for the Serie A giants. It was believed that Napoli may look to sign Bakayoko permanently, with his parent club Chelsea planning on selling the defensive midfielder to gain some funds. However, the Serie A team no longer wants to sign the Frenchman this summer, despite him becoming a regular in Gennaro Gattuso’s team since joining on loan.
It will be interesting to see what the future holds for these two players next summer. Bakayoko might get his chance under new Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel if he returns to the Blues.
