Barcelona weighing up a move for Ajax ace Lisandro Martinez

Barcelona are reportedly eyeing a move for Ajax Amsterdam defender Lisandro Martinez as per the report in Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo

The 24-years-old joined the Eredivisie giants back in 2019 from Argentine club Defensa y Justicia. Since joining the Johan Cruyff Arena, the defender has established himself as a regular starter.

According to the report, the Catalan giants are looking to bolster their defensive options in this upcoming summer transfer window. And following securing a move for Chelsea man Andreas Christensen, Barcelona has now shifted their attention towards Lisandro Martinez.

The defender will be an affordable option for Xavi Hernandez’s side as neither his salary package will be an issue to get this deal over the line nor his transfer fee. So, the 24-years-old will be a perfect candidate for the Blaugrana during their financial difficulties.

Will Lisandro Martinez be a good addition to the Barcelona squad?

Lisandro Martinez could be a perfect acquisition for Barcelona. Despite not being a tall defender, the 24-years-old’s positional sense and technical skills will make him the perfect player to play under Xavi Hernandez.

The Argentine flourished under Erik ten Hag’s tutelage and given both managers plays with a similar philosophy. The Argentine will take less time to adapt to his new surroundings if the Catalan giants were to sign him.

Meanwhile, the 24-years-old can play multiple positions. He can play in the midfield as well as in the center-back and also in the left-back position. The Blaugrana are lacking numbers in their left-back position as apart from Jordi Alba, they don’t have any recognized left-back.

Therefore, Lisandro Martinez could fill that void for Barcelona. Meanwhile, despite enduring a difficult start to this season, the Blaugrana have come back brilliantly since the arrival of Xavi Hernandez. They are now the likeliest team to finish in the second spot in the league. However, they are far behind the league leaders Real Madrid.
