Former Borussia Dortmund superstar Ousmane Dembele has opened up about his time with the club. Dembele revealed that Thomas Tuchel is his favorite coach and that he wouldn’t have left Dortmund, had Tuchel stayed there.
Ousmane Dembele was speaking at an interview where he discussed many subjects including his former boss. The winger stated that he is happy at Barcelona and hit out against the critics. Dembele has been ravaged by multiple injuries reducing his playing time at the Catalan club.
NOT HITTING THE HEIGHTS
The Winger started his career at Stade Rennais from where he was picked up by Dortmund in 2017. His performances for Dortmund attracted attention from multiple top clubs. However, it was FC Barcelona who secured the then 20-year-old for €105 million.
For Dembele, his time at Barcelona has not been prolific. The winger has scored 29 goals and assisted 20 in his 114 appearances for Barcelona. However, he has regularly missed games, mainly because of a recurring hamstring injury.
The French international has not completed more than 2000 minutes in any of his campaigns with Barca and the injuries have hampered his form as well. Dembele did speak against his critics who blamed him for his injury struggles.
“You can’t play for Barcelona for four years without a healthy lifestyle.”– Dembele told beIN Sports.
The future of the former Dortmund star is unclear with his contract set to expire in 2022. This brings more attention from other clubs. Dembele plays predominantly on the right-wing and is excellent with both feet. He mentioned in the interview that he prefers his left foot to drive the ball and the right foot to shoot.
A POSSIBLE REUNION WITH TUCHEL ON THE BOOKS FOR DEMBELE?
Dembele while saying that he is happy at Barcelona has not rejected the possibility of a move. Chelsea, in particular, will be interested, as Dembele has mentioned that the current Chelsea boss is his favorite coach. Thomas Tuchel managed Ousmane Dembele when both of them were at Dortmund.
The Blues currently have many talented players in their squad and a move for Dembele could be far-fetched. Other big clubs like Manchester United, Juventus and Liverpool are also interested in the winger. However, any move will depend on whether Barce decide to keep him at Camp Nou or cash him this summer.
