Bayern delivered shock defeat at home by Frankfurt

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Bayern Munich was shocked at home on Sunday as they were defeated by Eintracht Frankfurt. The Eagles won the match 2-1 as Bayern suffered their first loss of the campaign.

The Rekordmeister went into the match on the back of a routine Champions League demolition of Dynamo Kyiv in the champions league. However, Frankfurt took all three points of the match as they were more clinical in front of the goal than Bayern.

Frankfurt came into the match in the 14th position in the Bundesliga table, while Bayern was at the top. The victory was the first for Frankfurt in the league this season, after drawing 5 of their previous match. As for Bayern, they are still at the top of the league, though they are level in points with Bayer Leverkusen.

WASTEFUL BAYER BEATEN BY RESILIENT FRANKFURT

Bayern started the match strong, unleashing waves of attack on the Frankfurt backline. This soon lead to the first goal as the Champions scored in the 29th minute. A beautiful pick from Robert Lewandowski was finished off by Leon Goretzka to earn his first Bundesliga goal of the campaign.

However, the lead was short-lived as the corner from Filip Kostic was headed in by Frankfurt captain Martin Hinteregger. Bayern tried to respond by attacking again but was denied time and again by the excellence of Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp.

Trapp displayed a man of the match-winning performance against the league leaders, saving multiple shots thrown at him. Bayern was simply wasteful in front of the goal as they were not able to get past Trapp. But the final blow for the champions came in the 82nd minute.

This time Kostic became the finisher when his shot from the left wing earned Frankfurt three vital points. The shot, left goalkeeper Manuel Neuer undecisive as it went past the German with ease. Questions were raised about the new signing Dayot Upamecano as both the goals conceded came from faults from his side.

Both the clubs will now go into the international break. Frankfurt will return on the 16th when they take on Hertha Berlin at home. Bayern Munich will try to bounce back when they travel to Bayer Leverkusen in the top of the table clash in Bundesliga.
