It is no secret that Bayern Munich are looking for a new right-back. The club has been in the market in the past two seasons to strengthen this position.
The latest news reports that the Bundesliga champions are interested in Sassuolo star Mert Muldur. According to Sky Sports, Bayern Munich are considering the 22-year-old as one of the options at right-back.
Muldur is one of the many options that Bayern Munich are considering for the right-back position. Reports have also emerged that Die Roten are interested in bringing Barcelona defender Sergino Dest.
BAYERN WORRY IN RIGHT-BACK
Bayern have been struggling to reinforce their right-back position for some time. Currently, the right-back options for the club are Benjamin Pavard and Bouna Sarr. Pavard has previously stated his desire to move to the centre of the defence. Julian Nagelsmann is interested in playing a three at the back system and hence there is a chance for the French international to feature at his preferred position.
Even if Pavard plays in the right-back, Bayern still needs to provide sufficient backup. The other option is Bouna Sarr, who was disappointing ever since his move last summer. Sarr could be one of the players that Bayern might sell this summer to fund their transfer activity.
Other players used in the position include Joshua Kimmich and Niklas Sule. Kimmich is pivotal for the Bayern midfield and will be their mainstay in the middle. Similarly, Bayern needs Sule to be in the centre of defence as they have limited cover there. Thus both of them will only be used in the right-back position only if there is an emergency.
MULDER EMERGING AS AN OPTION
This search for a new right-back has lead Bayern to Sassuolo. Muldur has featured 28 times for Sassuolo in Serie A. He is good with his tackling and defensive abilities. However, he does lack strength when going forwards. But at 22, he offers an excellent long term option for the Rekordmeister.
But the only issue for a move to materialize could be Muldur’s contract situation. The Turkish international still has three years left in his contract and buying him could cost Bayern dearly.
New reports of Barcelona willing to sell Sergino Dest this summer might prompt Bayern to look at the more established option. Bayern are also looking at the other Barca stars like Sergi Roberto as a potential option. While it is still early to come to conclusions, one can expect Bayern to bring a new right-back this summer.
