Bayern Munich destroys newcomers Bochum

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

The Bundesliga Champions showed their quality when they gave the newly-promoted side a taste of the top league. Bayern Munich thrashed VfL Bochum for 7-0 and moved top of the table for the first time this season.

Bayern continued their excellent form on Saturday as they scored 4 times in the first half and three in the second. For newcomers Bochum, the quality on display was too much to handle.

Bochum are currently in the relegation zone, with just SpVgg Greuther Furth below them. Bayern however has recovered from their slow start winning the last 4 matches in the league. The defending champions will travel to face Furth in their next match while Bochum will face VfB Stuttgart.

BAYERN DEMOLISHES BOCHUM IN SPECIAL KIT

Bayern made a special start to the match when they wore a one-off kit to celebrate the Oktoberfest tradition. The dark green kit with the golden logo was a thing of beauty and made the tradition special. Oktoberfest is part of the Bavarian traditions. But the region has not been able to conduct celebrations for the last two years due to the pandemic.

Leroy Sane started the goal-fest when he scored from a free kick in the 16th minute. The German soon became the provider as his pass from the left-wing was converted by Joshua Kimmich. Serge Gnabry soon joined the party scoring an excellent goal after his run from the right-wing. A bizarre own goal from Bochum defender Vasilis Lampropoulos made it 4 goals in the first half.

The second half was not different with Lewandowski scoring his share. Silvere Ganvoula M’boussy seems to have got a consolation goal in the second half but was called off-side. Bayern added more misery as Kimmich scored his second of the match. Eric Maxim Choupo Moting completed the proceedings as he scored the 7th goal, even after goalkeeper Manuel Riemann made some brilliant saves.

The victory capped off another good week for the Rekordmeister as they also won their first Champions League match of the season against Barcelona. For Bochum, the result will be a reminder of the long season ahead, where they will have to fight hard to survive.
