Pedri was a bright spot in the Barcelona team as he quickly became part of the main team. He gained his spot on the main team after coming back from his loan spell at Las Palmas.
Likened to Andres Iniesta, Pedri has a contract with the club till 2022. Top clubs across Europe are said to be interested in signing the talented youngster, including the likes of Bayern Munich and Liverpool.
PEDRI TO BAYERN AN UNLIKELY TRANSFER
Pedri has played 37 times for Barcelona this season in the La Liga. In this time he scored 3 and assisted for 3 as well. Often playing in an attacking midfielder role, Pedri can also play in the left wing. The Spaniard is also defensively sound and is an excellent passer of the ball.
Barcelona is already in talks with the 18-year-old over a contract extension. Pedri’s price has risen from €40 million due to an excellent season with Barca.
However, the talks surrounding his move to Bayern Munich seem far-fetched. Firstly, the reported transfer fee of over €40m is a price that Bayern would be unwilling to spend on Pedri. Secondly, the Spaniard plays in the attacking midfielder role, which is currently occupied by Thomas Mueller and his understudy Jamal Musiala. Hence the chance for them to buy another attacking midfielder is dim.
IS THE RUMOUR A BARCELONA PLOY?
Thus the whole transfer rumor is just that, a rumor. Mundo Deportivo is often considered a mouthpiece for Barcelona. The Catalan giants are going through a patchy period. Thus by projecting that they battled with the top European clubs to keep Pedri at home will help in their image building.
Also, Pedri has been a vital part of the team. To sell one of their top prospects is very unlikely and especially when Barcelona are trying to rebuild itself. So the whole rumor can be pushed to the side unless any German news outlets confirm it.
Pedri is currently with the Spain national team for their Euro 2020 campaign. The midfielder will most likely sign an extension and will be staying at Barca for the foreseeable future.
