Belotti emerged as the alternative to Haaland for Chelsea

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Chelsea might go for the Torino forward Andrea Belotti if they are not able to sign Borussia Dortmund’ Erling Braut Haaland this summer. The Blues are among in the race to buy the Norwegian sensation.

Dortmund already said publicly that they won’t sell the Norwegian 20-year-old wunderkind for anything less than €180 million. They expressed that whoever wants to take Haaland will have to pay close to €180 million. The figure will go over €200 million including the agent fees and salary of the player.

Haaland has a release clause in his contract with Dortmund of €75 million which can be triggered from the summer of 2022. His contract with Dortmund will run until June 2024.

The former RB Salzburg forward made 31 appearances across all competitions this season for Borussia Dortmund, scored 32 goals and assisted 6 goals.

Can Chelsea afford Haaland or will they go for Belotti?

During this situation of the pandemic, every club are losing a fortune every day for no fans in the stadium. At this moment it is hard to believe that anyone can spend that huge sum on a single-player let alone Chelsea.

The Blues spent over £200 million last summer and it will be hard for the Russian Billionaire Roman Abramovich to spend around the same money two consecutive years. Chelsea have thus identified the star forward and captain of Torino Andrea Belotti as the cheaper alternative to Haaland this transfer window.

Belotti will have just one year in his current contract with Torino at the end of this season. So, the Toro might have to sell their star man for a cut-price of around €30-40 million. Even though he has a release clause of €100 million in his contract.

Belotti has made 26 appearances for Torino in Serie A this season. He managed to score 11 goals and assisted 5 times. The 27-year-old striker made 219 appearances across all competitions for Torino in his career and scored 102 goals in less than 6 years at Turin.

Chelsea are desperately looking for a proper number nine for next season. It will be interesting to see who they will choose in the summer. Will Chelsea manage to land Haaland against the odds or they buy Belotti?
