Ben Jacobs is already speaking up for the current Chelsea owners. Now it looks like he might also be assisting some teams from Saudi Arabia.
Today he posted a lengthy series of tweets discussing the league’s plans for this summer. It’s crucial for Chelsea, who once again may depend on the league to fix their past errors.
In Jacobs’ extensive series of tweets, he describes the summer plans of the state-owned Saudi teams. They’re planning to make “5-6 big signings this summer,” with a budget of £2 billion for transfer fees, agent fees, and wages.
Player Transfers: Chelsea and Manchester United’s Plans
Many players are said to be available. Manchester United wants to reduce their high salaries by selling players like Casemiro and Raphael Varane. Chelsea had success last summer by selling players like Kalidou Koulibaly, Edouard Mendy, and N’Golo Kante, and it seems they want to do the same again.
They almost had even more success. Jacobs reports that they agreed to a €45m bid from Al Hilal for Romelu Lukaku, but the striker turned it down.
Romelu Lukaku’s Transfer Prospects: Chelsea’s Strategy and Saudi Interest
It seems like we won’t see as much spending as we did in 2023. Most of these Saudi teams are only planning to add one or two star players each year now. Chelsea just need to ensure that Lukaku is one of them.
After an average season with Roma, Lukaku’s chances of playing in the top-level Champions League next season are decreasing. Chelsea hopes that a similar offer to last year will be more appealing to him this time. Jacobs says that “several Saudi clubs are still interested” in Lukaku, and they know that if they can sell him for a good price, it will give them more options to buy players themselves.
