Bengaluru United have won the WFS Award for Best Internalization Strategy alongside partner club Sevilla FC. As a result, the 2nd division club becomes the first Indian club to win this prestigious award.

Currently, they are participating in Durand Cup this year and have qualified to the knockout stages of the competition. Whereas, their partner club, Andalusian giants Sevilla has been a regular team in Spain and in European competitions too. They have been one of the formidable sides in Europe winning one League title, five League Cups, one Spanish Super Cup, one UEFA Super Cup and a record six Europa League titles since their inception.

With the likes of players such as Pedro Manzi, Sanju Pradhan and Luka Majcen, Bengaluru are expecting a strong finish in the Durand Cup as well as promotion to I-League.

Bengaluru United and Sevilla have excelled together since their partnership

Bengaluru United announced their partnership with La Liga heavyweights Sevilla in Jan 2021. Since then, the lower-tier Indian club has made some attractive signings and is keen on achieving promotion to the higher-ranked I-League.

Since its inception in 2018, Bengaluru United has been growing gradually. In the 2019-20 I-League qualifiers, they failed to qualify but did put up a decent performance. They finished 3rd in the final round behind Mohammedan SC and Bhawanipore FC.

Additionally, they were the 2020-21 Bengaluru Super Division champions finishing with 10 wins, 1 draw and a defeat in 12 matches. Gaurav Manchanda, FC Bengaluru United and Nimida Sports Founder was extremely proud of his club’s achievement and said,

“We are honoured to have won the Best Internationalisation Strategy award by the World Football Summit Awards. To have our partnership with Sevilla FC recognised on such a prestigious forum is a great validation of all that we had set out to achieve. It gives us great motivation to continue in our efforts to grow the game of football.”

Whereas, co-owner Debjit D. Chaudhuri says,

“To be recognised for our efforts by a prestigious body like the World Football Summit is a moment of great pride and honour and we are indeed thankful for it.”

Currently, they are also impressive in Durand Cup after winning 1-0 and 4-2 against CRPF and Indian Air Force respectively. They next play against Mohammedan SC in their final group match after confirming their place in the knockouts.
