Arsenal are appearing to be in the pole position to sign Benjamin Sesko. The Slovenina international prefers moving to the Emirates stadium after finding himself at the centre of a transfer battle. The RB Leipzig forward prefers a move to Arsenal amidst interest from several clubs like Man United, Chelsea, Arsenal.
Benjamin Sesko to Arsenal
The RB Leipzig striker is on the Gunner’s watchlist after spending an impressive season in the Bundesliga. The striker turned down Manchester United’s interest after attracting interest from Arsenal. That is a huge boost for Arsenal’s attack with Mikel Arteta wanting a young striker. He wants a forward to develop and work in partnership with Kai Havertz who was phenomenal for Arsenal last season. Sesko’s agent Elvis Basanovic has been to Arsenal matches this season and the 20-year-old stricker would fit the side. RB Leipzig are ready to sell him this transfer window if they get a right deal even though he has only been with them for one year.
Sesko’s Career Trajectory
Moreover, Benjamin Sesko acknowledged that a switch to Leipzig was a better decision than joining Man Utd when he made his first move. The 20-year-old Slovenian striker got fame after joining Bundesliga side Red Bull Salzburg in 2019. He made a switch to Germany from Austria. Furthermore, he had to make a tough decision to choose the german outfit rather than some big european club where he wouldn’t have gotten much playing time. Later, the striker moved to the same family club, RB Leipzig.
At the time he said on his move to Leipzig:
“The thing is, I wasn’t really involved in these kinds of conversations, but I think it was better to come here.”
He also added:
“It was very important for me to go to a place that plays a similar style of football. I already knew what I had to do and didn’t have to go through a whole learning process again.”
Meanwhile after an incredible season at Leipzig, he is attracting interest from European giants and a move is imminent. Thus a big money move to Arsenal is most likely to happen this transfer window. The deal could be around £45m for the Slovenia international. The German club’s model has often seen them move on their top stars for a huge profit – and Sesko could be the latest player to move on.
Benjamin Sesko: A lethal Striker
Sesko is in the Slovenia squad for the Euros. Slovenia will face England in the Group stages at the Euro in Germany this summer. Moreover, Sesko finished his first season at Leipzig with 18 goals across all competitions. Meanwhile he also became the youngest player to score in seven consecutive Bundesliga games at just 20 years and 353 days. Furthermore, Šeško scored his first international goal for Slovenia in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualification match against Malta. Thus he became Slovenia’s youngest ever goalscorer at the age of 18 years, 4 months and 8 days. The 6ft 5in tall striker, has a great goal record and is not the only name on Arsenal’s shortlist.
Other Stars on Arsenal’s Watchlist
Moreover, if the gunners can not secure a deal for Benjamin Sesko, they have a few other players in their watchlist. On their watchlist are Ajax star Brian Bobbey and Brighton ’s Evan Ferguson has also been linked. Meanwhile both Brentford’s Ivan Toney and Newcastle’s striker Alexander Isak are no longer on their shortlist.
