Bayern Munich will have to wait longer for Dayot Upamecano to join the team. This is according to news from Bild, which reports that a certain contract stipulation will result in a delay in his arrival to Munich.

Bayern Munich secured the signature of the French defender before the end of the season from RB Leipzig. However, instead of joining them on the 1st of July, Upamecano will have to stay at RB Leipzig till the 15th of July.

Upamecano is one of the best young defenders in Europe. Bayern Munich secured the signature of the 22-year old by paying his release clause of €42.5m.

UPAMECANO TO REACH LATE AT BAYERN

Usually, contracts for players with a new club start from the 1st of July. However, It is reported that Upamecano will have to wait 2 more weeks to officially be a Bayern player.

Bayern Munich acquired Upamecano by triggering his release clause. But in his release clause it was stated that if any club pulls the clause, the player will only join them on July 15th. This is reported to be the reason why the French defender will have to wait to join his new club.

But, is there something Bayern can do to change this. Well, Bayern could bring in Upamecano earlier, however, it will not be cheap. As reported, Bayern would have to pay half of the monthly salary of the star, which is approximately €200,000, and the club is not willing to do that.

BAYERN NOT TO PUSH FOR EARLY ARRIVAL

What does this mean for the player? Upamecano will most probably thus start his preseason with RB Leipzig. He will be joining the Die Roten Bullen on the 5th of July for the training and then move to Bayern on the 15th. RB Leipzig commercial director for sports Florian Scholz has confirmed the report.

“It would certainly make more sense for both clubs if Dayot Upamecano started preparing for his new club after the summer break. However, it is correct that this is not the case with the current contractual arrangement. That’s why we expect him to start training at RB Leipzig.”– said Scholz.

Upamecano was part of the France U21 team that reached the quarter-final of the tournament. The 22-year-old will join his manager Julian Nagelsmann who also made his move from RB Leipzig to Bayern Munich.
