According to a report by Fichajes, Timo Werner has emerged as a key target for Real Madrid in this summer transfer window. The Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti wants to raid Chelsea for Werner, as he wants a player to pair with Karim Benzema upfront.
Werner started his football career in the youth ranks of VfB Stuttgart. He went to appear 103 times while chipping 14 goals and 11 assists in all competitions for his parent club. However, the German rose to fame when he signed for RB Leipzig in 2016.
In his 4 years at Leipzig, he was the mainstay at the forward, which helped him deliver impressive performances. Werner had appeared 159 times for Leipzig in which he scored a total of 95 goals and 40 assists in all competitions. But it was his last season performance for Leipzig which earned him a transfer to England, as he signed for Chelsea.
It was Frank Lampard who found this talent and bought the youngster for £47.5 million in 2020. However, Werner has failed to live up to his expectation under both Lampard and Thomas Tuchel. The German appeared 52 times for Chelsea in his first season, but only scored 12 goals in all competitions. Following his inconsistence form the manager replaced him with his German teammate Kai Havertz at the up-front.
Werner still has 4 years left at Stamford Bridge, but Chelsea are already in the market to find a replacement for the German. However, despite his poor form Real Madrid are interested in signing Timo Werner this summer. As Ancelotti has approached the board to include Werner for next season’s plans.
Real Madrid interested in signing Werner in this transfer window
It is no doubt that Real Madrid needs to restructure their team after going trophyless this season. Madrid have already started to walk on that path after appointing their former manager Ancelotti to replace Zinedine Zidane.
Ancelotti has already started to improve the team, as he has included three players in his plan. It is believed that the Italian wants Houssem Aouar as a new midfield addition. While he has also stated to include Gareth Bale in his plans for next season.
Earlier, it was reported that Ancelotti wanted to bring his former forward Richarlison from Everton to pair him with Benzema. But, as per the latest reports, the Italian has targeted Chelsea’s flop transfer, Timo Werner.
Madrid lacked a proper from in front of the goal last season as they only scored 88 goals in all competitions. It was mainly Karim Benzema who carried the whole team in terms of scoring goals. But now it seems Ancelotti is looking to improve that low-scoring form by sign a new forward this summer.
For almost one year it was rumored that Madrid will sign Kylian Mbappe next season. But it is clear that it will not happen because of his high price. However, Madrid have identified Timo Werner as his replacement.
Ancelotti will be betting on Werner seeing his past performance for RB Leipzig. As his performance for Chelsea is not so impressive. Following his low form, Ancelotti believes that he can sign the German at a low price, however, Chelsea might think differently.
Currently, Werner is focusing on Euro 2020 and has not commented on this topic. So, let’s wait to see if the German stays in England or signs for Real Madrid after playing one year for Chelsea.
