Post-Match Analysis and Player Ratings: Chelsea 1-1 Krasnodar

Chelsea were held 1-1 at home by Russian giants Krasnodar in the UEFA Champions League fixture on Tuesday night.

Both the teams settled for a frustrating 1-1 draw, the Blues progressed into the Round of 16 finishing as Group E winners.

In another match from group E, Sevilla won by 3-1 against Rennes and finished at 2nd position.

Chelsea 1-1 Krasnodar Team News:

Chelsea made 10 changes in the starting 11 after the impressive win against Leeds United. Billy Gilmour and Faustino Anjorin played for the first time in the Champions League.

Kepa Arrizabalaga returned to the starting lineup after a long time. They started in a 4-3-3 formation.

Krasnodar made nine changes in their starting 11 after the 5-0 win in the Russian Premier League against Rotor.

The Bulls started with a 4-2-3-1 formation. However, they were coming with a victory against Rennes in their previous match in CL.

Chelsea 1-1 Krasnodar Analysis:

Chelsea had the most possession of about 64% and chances created as compared to Krasnodar. In comparison, the Bulls were more of the counter-attacking team.

The visitors had the first blood drawn after an easy finish by Remy Cabella in the 24th minute. But the lead didn’t last for long!

The Blues however equalised within 4 minutes by a penalty converted by Jorginho. The penalty resulted from Kaio bringing down Tammy Abraham in the penalty box.

Notable Performances:

Billy Gilmour (7.5/10) – Gilmour had a wonderful debut with creating chances and moving forward at times. His energy levels and confidence were quite good during the match.

Faustino Anjorin (7.5/10) – Another debutant who had provided some great backheels during the match. Initially he was pressing and then some lovely through balls and passes were achieved by him.

Remy Cabella – MOM (8/10) – Great performance by this player from Krasnodar. He successfully completed 39 out of 41 passes and was the key player for the Bulls. However, his wonderful opener goal could have been actually a save if Kepa did better.

Chelsea will now look to bounce back in the Round of 16 of the CL whereas Krasnodar would be looking forward to the Europa League. However, the Blues are having the maximum points they had ever achieved in the CL.
