Chelsea 2-0 Burnley : Analysis

The match began in an usual pattern similar to that of 0-0 draw against Wolves. However, the Blues took a first-half lead in the 40th minuted by Cesar Azpilicueta. The goal resulted from a brilliant counter-attack lead by Mason Mount.

The second half was completely dominated by the London side as Mount and Timo Werner were charging forward for that second goal. Still, the Clarets were unable to attempt a single shot, yet!

Sean Dyche’s side were parking the bus in front of counter-attacking Chelsea. Substitute Reece James came up close to the second goal but Nick Pope made a brilliant save to deny him.

However, the victory was sealed after a Marcus Alonso goal in the 84th minute. Alonso made a comeback to his career after not getting any playing time under former Blues coach Frank Lampard.

It was utter dominant display from Tuchel’s side as they successfully kept the visitors at bay. However, the visitors managed a shot in the last seconds, but couldn’t test the goalie.

Notable Performances

Christian Pulisic (7.5/10) – Providing a win against your favourite opponent, that’s what the super sub Pulisic did in the match. Additionally, his brilliant assist lead to the win.

Marcus Alonso (8/10) – Alonso proved his worth after being rejected by former coach, Lampard. He scored a scrumptious volley for ensuring the three points secured by the Blues. As a result, deserves to be the Man of the Match.

Matej Vydra (4.5/10) – Poor performance from Vydra after being awarded a rare start. However, the whole team should be unhappy with their overall performance. They will have to regroup and focus on their next fixture.

Chelsea next face a tough test against Tottenham Hotspur on 5th February whereas Burnley host current leaders Manchester City on 3rd February.
