Chelsea and Barcelona are close to completing an agreement for Frenkie De Jong

Chelsea has been linked with Frenkie De Jong for the past few weeks in relation to a permanent transfer. The Dutch international is a primary target for Manchester United this summer despite their failed attempts to lure the player away. Chelsea has entered the race in recent weeks and reportedly swooped ahead of the Red Devils to complete the transfer.

Midfield department is one of the weak links at Chelsea as confessed by Thomas Tuchel as well. N’golo Kante and Jorginho are not the same players as two seasons ago and Mateo Kovacic has struggled with Injuries. Conor Gallagher and Ruben Loftus-Cheek are yet to prove their mettle at the highest stage in European football.

The acquisition of Frenkie De Jong will be really helpful to this Chelsea squad. The Dutchman can turn the top 4 side into a championship winning side with his abilities on and off the ball. However, Frenkie De Jong seems to be interested in staying at Barcelona ahead of a transfer elsewhere.

Frenkie De Jong would prefer Chelsea over Manchester United

Lack of Champions League football is a major hurdle for Manchester United in convincing Frenkie De Jong to sign for the club. However, that is not the case with Chelsea. The Blues finished 3rd in the Premier League last season and have qualified for UEFA Champions League.

Frenkie De Jong wants to play in the Champions League and thus considers Chelsea as a more attractive option out of the two. Though it is believed that the presence of his former manager, Erik Ten Hag at Old Trafford makes Manchester United a tempting option. However, the midfielder prefers to play in Champions League than reunite with his former boss.

The Dutchman prefers to stay at Barcelona but would likely move to Chelsea if a transfer is to materialise. Chelsea will be pleased to sign Frenkie De Jong as they look to mount a strong title challenge this season. After successive top 4 finishes in the English top flight, the club is ready to take the next step ahead!
