Chelsea and PSG to go head-to-head for Miralem Pjanic

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

As per the report from Daily Mail, Chelsea and PSG are interested in Barcelona’s bench warmer Miralem Pjanic. Both the teams are hoping to sign the midfielder on a long-term loan from next season.

The 31-year-old joined the Barcelona side in a whopping £60 million swap deal transfer last summer. He was swapped with Arthur Melo who headed in the opposite direction to Juventus for £75 million.

But now, after just 11 months at Camp Nou, Pjanic could be heading for an exit. The Bosnian has deeply failed to impress Barcelona in his debut season.

The former Juventus player lacks game time with only 28 appearances in all competitions this season. The midfielder has moaned a couple of times about his lack of game time but his complaints have fallen on deaf ears.

The main reason for his lack of game time is Barcelona’s large options in the midfield. They have a no. of young options to choose from such as Frenkie De Jong and Pedri.

The other reason for being a bench warmer is his degrading playing style for the Catalan side. He has not only failed to assist any goal, but he has also not registered a single goal from himself.

Following this poor performance, Barcelona wants to get read of the Bosnian as soon as possible. They have also named him in the 14 players list up for transfer in this summer transfer window.

Pjanic is under contract until the end of 2023/24 and has a huge buy-out clause of €400 million. But both the player and the club want to get rid of each other as soon as possible.

Chelsea and PSG want to loan flop Pjanic

It is hard to believe that following Pjanic’s form last season anybody wants to sign the player. But recent news suggests that Chelsea and PSG could go head-to-head for Pjanic.

Earlier reports claimed that Barcelona and Chelsea could be opting for a swap deal for him. The Catalans wanted blue’s star midfielder Jorgino as part of the swap deal.

But now the reports claim that Chelsea would be opting for a loan for Pjanic this summer, ruling out the swap deal. But now they have to face PSG to sign the player as Mauricio Pochettino’s side is also interested in the Bosnian.

The report adds that Chelsea and PSG are keen on a season-long loan move for Pjanic and have been approached about a move. But will wait until the end of the season to make a play for the Bosnian.

PSG had a bad season as they were out of the Champions League semi-final and could lose their Ligue 1 title to Lille. They are hoping to make some changes in the team following their disastrous season. PSG would be starting from midfield while keeping an eye on Pjanic for a move.

Chelsea had a good season following their change of manager mid-season. Thomas Tuchel took the charge as manager and went to take the blues for a Champions League Final. But he would like to improve in the Premier League next season with the signing of Pjanic.

It is no doubt that it will be easy to approach Barcelona for Pjanic for a loan move. But the two teams have to keep in mind the high wage that comes along the Bosnian.

Let’s wait and see who among the two clubs will be able to sign the player in the transfer window and if Pjanic could be able to get his old lady form back.
