Chelsea is set to prepare a Fresh Bid for Matthijs De Ligt. The Blues have reportedly reignited their interest in signing the Dutch Centre-back. The Blues possess a rich vein of defensive talent in their ranks. But it has not stopped them from eyeing other potential targets to strengthen the team. A fine centre-back already, De Ligt came into the limelight during his time at boyhood club Ajax.
Since moving to the Serie A giants Juventus in 2019, De Ligt has appeared 88 times for the Old Lady. However, he has not been as prolific as he was during his time at the Dutch League. Matthjis De Ligt was a part of Ajax’s team in 2019 when they reached the Semi-Finals of the UEFA Champions League after almost 2 decades. Ajax’s fairytale run in the UCL ended against Tottenham Hotspur, who lost to the eventual champions, Liverpool.
The 22-year-old has reached the halfway point of his five-year contract with Juventus. However, question marks are looming over the Dutch’s future at Turin who may be or may not be allowed to depart the Italian giants. The Turin outfit has been in a rebuilding process this season and they can apparently sacrifice Matthjis De Ligt. This has caught the eye of Chelsea, especially after they failed to sign him in the summer.
WILL SIGNING MATTHJIS DE LIGT PROVE TO BE A GOOD DEAL FOR CHELSEA?
Besides the finances, there is no real downside to signing the 22-year-old. Chelsea already has a good mix between the youth and experience in their team. After the addition Matthjis De Ligt in their squad, they would become a real force to reckon with in Europe for years to come. According to Calciomercato, Chelsea has already decided to make an official bid for De Ligt during the summer transfer window.
Meanwhile, Chelsea will have to pay more than £80 Million to secure the Former Ajax Centre-back’s services next season. Such a scenario appears unlikely given De Ligt’s contract situation and Juve’s ongoing financial issues.
Matthjis De Ligt has already established himself as a leader and has dined with some of the best defenders of the current generation. He is an established international, proving his quality beyond domestic football. However, one must consider the repercussions this deal might have on the young stars at Chelsea.
Matthjis De Ligt could be a possible replacement for Antonio Rudiger who is also out of contract at the end of this season.
