Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell omitted from the national squad

About Football Express India - Indian Super League - I-League

Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell was omitted from the England national squad after struggling to break into Thomas Tuchel’s first eleven.

The 24-years-old was part of the national squad for the European Championship. He has failed to get a single minute throughout the Premier League this season. After enduring a disappointing time with the national team, the former Leicester man has only managed to start one game so far this season against Aston Villa in the EFL Cup.

Following the involvement with the national team, the England international returned to training late in the summer and had to miss a large part of the pre-season. So, the 24-years-old has struggled to get up to speed in this campaign.

During the absence of Chilwell, Marcos Alonso impressed the German manager with his work rate. Due to which he secured the left-wing back position and played every game in the Premier League

Chelsea defender Chilwell omitted from the England squad:

Speaking in the press ahead of the Saturday afternoon game against Southampton. Tuchel said that it would have been better to see the defender with the national squad, but it was predicted that he would be omitted.

Chilwell hasn’t played many minutes so far this season and he will have to earn that spot by playing regularly and showcasing his talent with Chelsea. He said:

It would be nice to be selected. He is proud to play for England and has the quality to play for England, but he understands he has to earn it with minutes. He has not had too many minutes so he can accept why he hasn’t been selected. Once he plays more for us and plays with quality, he will have the chance.”

Meanwhile, after an amazing start to the new campaign, Chelsea has encountered a stumbling block. As they had to endure back to back defeats against Manchester City and Juventus. The Blues will be looking to get back to winning ways when they meet Southampton in the Premier League.
